I drop Lox in one or two parry attack rounds, so about 6ish strikes, even when I pull up a sea sperpent I kill it in 3-4 strikes and my mace skill is only like mid 60's. But the porcupine for me hits for a ton of damage, has an amazing knockback which helps in any monster crowd for sure. The freeze effect is very helpful in a crowd of enemies if you can stun a few to Regen some stamina, but I found very little use for it after I made the porcupine.įor me porcupine is by far the best weapon of the three in all but one case, fighting Yagluth, silver weapons reign supreme there. I use maces pretty much exclusively, I have used the BM sword to an extent as well as the porcupine, and I of course have Frostner.

Single targets, groups of opponents, this thing handles them all with speed, ease, and safety. It's not quite as intuitive to use at first, but once you get used to your parry limit, actually using roll dodge, and the range/hitbox of your sweep and pokes. the polearm is now my favorite weapon in Valheim. People had me so darn convinced that the mace (or sword) + shield combo was far and away the best that I thought I was handicapping myself by choosing the Polearm for my 3rd playthrough. Everyone's going to have some opinion on what the best weapon is, or what the worst is, but when you get good at the mechanics of any of the weapons I've used so far they are amazing.

My takeaway is that the "metagamer" in me was holding me back. So I've done several playthroughs now with different characters, and the weapons I've "mained" so far are maces (+sledge), swords, and polearms.
